A Workshop for Creative Artists, Writers and Performers

Charles Coe, Jeff Raab, Roxie Munro, Laura Rossi Totten, Sharon Butler
and Susan Raab.

On Friday, I had the opportunity to attend a workshop moderated by Susan Raab at the Thomas J. Dodd research Center in the University of Connecticut in Storrs: "Crafting a Public Identity, A Workshop for Creative Artists, Writers and Performers on Navigating the Arts Business Maze".

After an introduction by Terri Goldich, who is the Curator of the Northeast Children's Literature Collection, Susan Raab presented a wonderful panel of art professionals composed by Roxie Munro, Sharon Butler, Jeffrey Raab, Charles Coe and Laura Rossi Totten. Each did a presentation and a discussion followed.

The information that they shared and their refletions about their own experiences with the art profession was invaluable.

Carol Goldenberg, the juror for this year’s show, studied illustration at RISD. She says about the picture book: "Remember too, that the picture book is most often the first meeting a child has with artwork of any kind, and how important it is for all artists who work with the picture book to bring to it their highest level of quality and craft."
